Woman Escapes Death As Electric Cable Catch Fire

A woman in Agege area of Lagos state has narrowly escaped death in a fire incident at her residence on Friday night.


Sharon who described the incident as a “miracle from God” disclosed that she bought electric cables from an electrician in her area about three days ago in order to power her generating set.

She further disclosed that the electrician assisted in connecting the wires from the generating set into her two-room apartment. She added that three days after which was on Friday, she started perceiving the odour of burning wires.

Sharon stressed that she traced the odour she had perceived to where her generating set was and discovered that the wires had started burning.

According to her, she didn’t want to disturb her neighbours because it was late at night. However, in her attempt to put off the generating set, fire engulfed, burning her hand in the process.

Speaking on the incident, her neighbor who pleaded anonymous disclosed that Sharon’s shouts and calls for help jolted him up from his sleep.

“As soon as I heard her shouts, I ran outside to see what was going on. As I got to where she was, I saw fire. I quickly alerted other neighbours to get water and detergent soaps. We were able to put out the fire but her hand was badly burnt”, he said.

He however added that the electric cables which the woman bought were substandard. He disclosed that when an electricity expert examined the cables, it was discovered that they were fake.

“People buy substandard cables because they are cheaper than the original ones. They don’t know that there are negative effects of this. It was only God that saved Sharon from losing her life in this process”, he added.
Meanwhile, he called on other Lagosians to careful when they buy electric cables, adding that substandard products are numerous in the market.
