A woman in Agege area of Lagos
state has narrowly escaped death in a fire incident at her residence on Friday
night.
Sharon who described the incident
as a “miracle from God” disclosed that she bought electric cables from an
electrician in her area about three days ago in order to power her generating
set.
She further disclosed that the
electrician assisted in connecting the wires from the generating set into her
two-room apartment. She added that three days after which was on Friday, she
started perceiving the odour of burning wires.
Sharon stressed that she traced
the odour she had perceived to where her generating set was and discovered that
the wires had started burning.
According to her, she didn’t want
to disturb her neighbours because it was late at night. However, in her attempt
to put off the generating set, fire engulfed, burning her hand in the process.
Speaking on the incident, her
neighbor who pleaded anonymous disclosed that Sharon’s shouts and calls for
help jolted him up from his sleep.
“As soon as I heard her shouts, I
ran outside to see what was going on. As I got to where she was, I saw fire. I
quickly alerted other neighbours to get water and detergent soaps. We were able
to put out the fire but her hand was badly burnt”, he said.
He however added that the
electric cables which the woman bought were substandard. He disclosed that when
an electricity expert examined the cables, it was discovered that they were
fake.
“People buy substandard cables
because they are cheaper than the original ones. They don’t know that there are
negative effects of this. It was only God that saved Sharon from losing her
life in this process”, he added.
Meanwhile, he called on other
Lagosians to careful when they buy electric cables, adding that substandard
products are numerous in the market.
